Why the air temperature lies
Asphalt soaks up sun
In direct sunlight, dark pavement absorbs solar radiation and runs 40–60°F hotter than the air around it.
77°F air → 125°F pavement
A pleasant spring day can still cook paw pads. At 125°F, skin can burn in about 60 seconds.
Timing is everything
Pavement sheds heat slowly after sunset. Early morning is usually the safest window — we show you exactly when.
